Summer House Backpackers Cairns

Michele has been nothing short of amazing at helping us book out perfect stay. He informed us of all facilities and activities going on at the hostel, provided us with everything we needed and more. The hostel is great itself - the kitchen and bar are excellent. Very clean and friendly. Would recommend for anyone who’s wanting a sociable experience!

I liked the location and the staff overall seemed nice, but ended my stay after less than 12 hours because of cockroaches in the room. Bedsheets stained but bed was actually really comfy. The room is quite cramped and the hostel generally feels a bit untidy and unclean (at least the most unclean I have been too), there was a muddy towel left in the corridor for the duration of my stay, not sure why no staff would think to move it away and unclean toilet/showers. When I asked for a refund on account of the roaches I was told they were normal and so they wouldn’t refund me, but from the unsealed parts of the room I do believe work could’ve been done to avoid them. Shame as I was really looking forward to my stay but I couldn’t compromise with cockroaches :( they did offer credit but don’t think I’ll have the chance to use this before I leave aus so not that much use. The people I met were nice :-) and cool how they have lots of activities on, I just wish they would take more responsibility for the pest issues they have and general cleanliness. I have never had to check out early before. Such a shame to throw the money down the toilet.

Worst place I've stayed in by far. Heavy enablers of weed and drug use. So dusty me and 3 other mates got extremely sick due to how dusty the air was from the aircon. Broken showers. Dirty nasty showers. Manager Matt parties with the backpackers & unprofessional. Not worth the money you pay. Worst hostel out of all of the hostels I've travelled in the last year. I've stayed almost everywhere in Australia. And I highly recommend noone stay here and this place should be audited and shut down.
